Surgical Vs Non Surgical Rhinoplasty – Which is best for you?

Yes, we advertise the non surgical alternative on our social media pages a lot but we always make it very clear that there are limits as to what we can do with this injectable dermal filler treatment. Lets have a look at the main differences between the surgical and non surgical options when it comes to Rhinoplasty! What can be achieved? What are the costs? What is the downtime and what are the associated risks?

Surgical Rhinoplasty

Results:

Dramatic changes can be made! Adjustment of the shape and a reduction in size is no problem, you can have a tip lift too which is becoming very popular. It may be performed as a reconstructive procedure to correct a birth defect or an injury such as a broken nose. Results are permanent.

Cost:

You can expect to pay upwards of £2500 for this option and this wouldn’t be here in the UK. You would probably be heading to Turkey where you’d be staying for about a week. UK rhinoplasty starts from around £5000.

Recovery:

After surgery you’re likely to be very sore with bruising and possible black eyes. You’ll probably have a plastic splint inside your nose for a week, this helps to keep the desired shape during the initial healing. After a week this will be removed and if you’re abroad you’ll then be allowed to fly home (if the surgeon is happy). You’ll normally be advised against work for around 4 weeks but your nose will have some swelling for up to 3 months. You may not see the final results for 12 months after surgery.

The risks:

Infection, difficulty in breathing properly through the nose, permanent numbness, scarring, an uneven result, persistant pain, discolouration or swelling.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

Results:

There are some limits as to what can be achieved. The size of the nose can’t be reduced but it often looks smaller once the shape has been smoothed out. A dorsal hump is usually no problem and we can lift the tip too. We can improve symmetry, help build loss of cartilage and we’ve corrected quite a few failed nose jobs where patients simply didn’t want to go through surgery again for the risk of more unsatisfactory results. A couple of sessions maybe required for the best results. The treatment can last around 12 months (often more) but it varies between patients depending on lifestyle and metabolism etc.

Cost:

At Faces, Manchester we charge £220 for the initial treatment and then £120 for a top up within 6 months (with a slight increase at our other clinic locations).

Recovery:

You’ll be advised to avoid alcohol, exercise, saunas, sunbeds and the use of makeup, skincare products etc for the first couple of days. patients may bruise, the treated area may show some redness at first and it’ll be tender when touched. It will usually settle in a few days but can be a bit swollen for up to two weeks.

The Risks:

Infection afterwards if the area isn’t kept clean, a poor treatment could mean the blockage of a vessel (vascular occlusion) which requires a hyalase treatment to dissolve the injected filler. If a client isn’t happy with the results, this treatment can be reversed completely.

What is right for you?

As with all cosmetic procedures, it’s about weighing up the viable options and doing what’s right for you! With way less expense, very little downtime and minimal risks involved, most people would probably agree that the non surgical treatment is worth considering first. We’ve treated a huge number of patients who were so blown away by the results that they were literally in tears when they looked in the mirror afterwards!
